A word about refacing, which has come along way from formica panels with routed designs to the high quality custom wood doors available today. It can be a high quality alernative to changing out the entire kitchen, while also limiting the scope of the project. Even counter tops need not be replaced. This is especially helpful when one has had Granite tops installed on old cabinetry, then decides to upgrade the cabinets. Yes this is doing things backwards, but it is surprising how many people do this.
What it really comes down to in the decision to upgrade your kitchen is what your objectives are. Are you planning to sell in the next five years, or are you in for the long term? Do you desire a magazine kitchen with the latest resaurant style stainless appliances? Or, do you just want a fresh new face on your existing cabinetry? Your budget will also play an important part in the decision process.
